Tecmo Koei Europes catalogue of releases has proven to be particularly impressive in recent years. Concentrating on a few select franchises and ensuring that their relatively niche audience is very well aware of each titles appeal, the likes of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden remain as relevant today as when audiences were first introduced to them thanks to careful modernisation and precise delivery. The forthcoming Dynasty Warriors 8 isnt about to be the exception to this rule, proving theres plenty of life in this frequently flogged horse yet.

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z Preview - E3 2013 (NGN)

Added: 27.06.2013 1:17 | 6 views | 0 comments

New Game Network: "For someone like myself, who hasnt played the more traditional Ninja Gaiden offerings, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z makes for a pretty strange introduction. It tells a non-canonical story that branches from the other games, and puts you in the shoes of Yaiba, a rival of series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa. An introductory cutscene establishes the premise: after a flashy fight with Ryu in a bamboo forest, Yaiba is the one who comes out worse for wear. In a battle between ninjas, that means having ones head and left arm forcibly separated from the rest of his body."

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z Preview | CheatCC

CCC says: "The Ninja Gaiden series, in its modern incarnation, is most defined by its laser focus on precise yet exciting fast-paced action. Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z has absolutely nothing to do with that tradition of fighting game-esque mechanics combined with sharp and technical action. It also doesnt star series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa, though he does make an appearance as the new main characters nemesis."

Team NINJA has come under fire for Ninja Gaiden 3 on more than one occasion, with many complaining that the development team had been swayed far too greatly by the expanding audience and thus creating a sequel with far less impact than previous titles in the series. While its true that this third release has a more accessible opening than previous Ninja Gaiden experiences, its no shallower in its combat system which is arguably the greater asset. And after an update added a new difficulty setting there was surely very little to be disappointed with?
